Rachel Whiteread’s Untitled (Domestic), 2002, is a massive sculpture cast from the negative space of the fire escape in an eighteenth-century three-story building that is now the Haunch of Venison Gallery in London. Both familiar and disconcerting, the work evokes memory and loss, as well as things from the past which we can no longer see and which are too often forgotten.
